Happy Chinese New Year!

We enjoyed a nice Chinese New Year today. We celebrated at home with Chinese take out since eating out with the two girls is not that easy these days. It was a yummy meal, inspite of Avery crying the last quarter of it! Next year we are thinking about taking the girls to the New Year's celebration in Chinatown, NYC. We'll see how well the girls are doing and how cold the temperature is.

Avery is 12 weeks on Tuesday and growing up so fast. She's had her second cold since birth this past weekend. It really does stink to be the second child who gets all the colds and such from the first. Typical, I was starting to transition Avery from sleeping in her carseat (she's been there since the first cold) to her bassinet, but we're back in the carseat until the congestion passes again. :-) Avery's latest physical milestone is that she's constantly trying to sit-up on her own when we're holding her. She does not enjoy lying back in our arms...she wants to use her stomach muscles, and sit up like the rest of us.

Cambria announced to me last night, "Mommy, Avery loves Dora!" Yes, life in our house revolves around Dora the Explorer. If Cambria is not watching Dora then she is acting out Dora episodes that she's seen. This afternoon she was acting out the entire Pirate Adventure episode during naptime. I hope that her memory will come to greater use some day.

Today Cambria discovered that her Madeline doll speaks when she pushes the left hand. Madeline says, "Hi, I'm Madeline. Have you been to Paris?" to which Cambria promptly responds each time, "Yes, I've been to Paris." She has no idea what she is talking about but she says it with such certainty that you can't help but laugh.

I'm not officially potty training Cambria but since many of her friends are going through it right now, she is definitely very interested. So, she wears pull-ups (Dora ones, of course) and goes tinkle several times a day. We'll start officially potty training with underwear when Avery's a little older and taking longer naps. Right now I just don't have the time to stay on top of her training and clean up the accidents that will occur if I don't.

More later.

Avery update

Avery is two months old and getting sweeter every day. She still has some tummy troubles, but most days she is doing much better. She is smiling and cooing more each day. Cambria loves to tell me each time Avery "talks" or hits a toy on her playgym. Avery is also completely taken with the swinging pendulum on our living room clock. She smiles and coos at it several times a day.

Avery's latest stats are as follows: 10 lbs. 13 oz. and 22 3/4 in.
I've had to put away many of her 0-3 mos. footed outfits.

Keep watching the blog for more updates.

Some Funny Cambria Phrases

"Mommy, I'm gonna teach Avery to talk."

We saw an armadillo on the Martha show and I told Cambria they were from Texas. Her response was, "I see an armadillo when I in Texas."

Somehow I got Cambria to try canned diced peaches and she decided that she liked them again. After eating a few bites she said these complicated sentences:
"Mommy, I ever try one before. Now I older and I try one. I LOVE peaches."

We went to Disney on Ice: Princess the other night. Cambria enjoyed the lights, music and skaters, but after the first 45 minutes she was more interested in the mechanics of her seat. It was a fun time and now Cambria loves talking about Ariel and Belle on her pull-up diapers.
